Sri Kurumba Trust
SKT is an educational and charitable trust started by Mr. PNC Menon that undertakes numerous socially relevant programs. Under the aegis of this trust, Mr. Menon adopted 3 panchayats (6 villages) in Palakkad district of Kerala - Vadakkenchery, Kizhakencherry and and Kannambra gram panchayats – and started the ‘Graamasobha’ initiative wherein ~17,500 people (~4600 families) were identified from the below poverty line and issued beneficiary identity cards. These adopted families have access to the numerous empowerment programs and activities listed below which will help transform their lives positively. All the philanthropic initiatives are conducted by the trust totally free for the beneficiaries. The total amount spent as part of CSR initiatives from 2017-18 – 2021-22 was Rs. 605.8 million with 58% of it dedicated to education.

Sobha Academy
Sobha Academy is helping India grow from its grassroots by providing quality education to approx. 1200 students at no cost. The day school has classes from KG-12 and is largely focused on the poorest-of-the-poor girls. Sobha Academy provides free education, transportation, food, clothing, and healthcare. The academy houses 50 teachers and over 100 non-teaching staff. The student teacher ratio is 1:16 which is at par with international standards and facilitates fruitful learning. Regular follow-ups are done with students who have passed out of the academy to make sure they have everything that they need to excel in academics.
Sobha Icons
Sobha Icon provides access to disadvantaged students from schools with limited resources to outperform and expand their knowledge. The vision is to empower the future icons of India. Four Sobha Icons who graduated in 2021 were conferred with the Kerala Chief Minister's Student Talent Award, along with a reward of Rs.1 lakh and a certificate of merit. A total of 477 students have appeared for the plus 2 examinations and passed till 2020-22 and have moved onto pursuing many varied and specialised courses, some even outside of the country.
Sobha Hermitage - Elderly Care
Sprawling over 27 acres of green estates in the heart of Kerala, this home for the elderly and aged is a place of warmth and affection. With a committed caretaking staff and adequate facilities like independent rooms, a community TV room, laundry, a multipurpose hall, lush parks, a gymnasium, a library, and many more, it is a true haven of comfort and happiness for those in need in their advanced years. The total expenditure for the last five years from 2017-18 to 2021-22 was Rs. 97.76 million. In the financial year 2021-22, Rs. 18.25 million was spent for the Hermitage which comes to around 16% of the overall expenditure of Sri Kurumba Trust in the year.
Sobha Healthcare Centre
Sobha Healthcare was established to make healthcare accessible to the underprivileged. Around 2500 families from Kizhakkencherry Panchayat, the Sobha Academy, and Sobha Hermitage have received free consultations, medical checkups, and treatment. The centre houses experienced doctors and has modern facilities like an observation room, in-patient room, pharmacy, laboratory, patient's waiting area, and a minor operation theatre to cater to various health conditions of the residents. All beneficiaries receive a health card to avail these services and total of 4534 health cards have been given out till June, 2022. The average number of patients per month in the current year was ~900.
Women Empowerment Programs
The Sri Kurumba Trust mainstreams the concerns of women in all their
initiatives. In the educational sector, admission and hostel facilities for girls are
prioritized. Further, in hiring policies women are favoured and 75% of the staff are
women. Within this, priority is given to widows who are raising children on their own.
Similarly in the community feeding program most of the beneficiaries are women. Besides,
there are initiatives focusing on women empowerment implemented by Sri Kurumba Trust.
Young Mother
Rehabilitation Program
Under this program, young widows from deprived families especially those with
children are identified for special support. They are provided with free
furnished housing, employment, higher education and skill development, living
allowance and free education for children at the Sobha Academy with all
amenities and accessories. At present, 10 young mothers and their 16 children
are residing in three flats.
Rural Women’s
Empowerment Programs
Under this program financial support is extended to almost thirty five widowed
mothers and their 63 children have been brought under the safety net and are
provided with a monthly living allowance along with all the resources and
facilities. Educational expenses of these children are also met by the trust to
give them adequate opportunity to come up in life. The women who need skill
upgradation and employment are also supported within the Sobha Group network.
Dowry Less
Social Wedding Program
Sobha Group has set up a charitable trust to organize social weddings without
dowries and to help young couples whose families re unable to provide a dowry.
The foundation also gives marriage counselling to these couples and has
successfully completed 647 weddings to date. A sum of Rs. 53 million was spent
till 2019.
Sobha Green Initiatives
Sobha Group is committed to undertaking sustainable initiatives on a massive scale to reduce the carbon footprint. The CSR activities include establishing 11 lakh litres of rainwater storage tanks along with 4 large percolation pits for rain water recharging, preserving 3000 varieties of flora and fauna, and very large waste management plants to process the waste generated in the various Sri Kurumba Trust institutions. The entire campus is constructed with minimum carbon footprints, without making changes in the terrains of the land. Paddy cultivation has also been an integral part of supporting the 'Zero Landless Kerala' mission, which aims towards Kerala becoming a state without landless and extremely poor people by 2025. Solar plants have been set up at Sobha Hermitage to encourage the use of clean energy.
Sobha Community Home Project
In line with its commitment to support needy families, Sobha Group recently organised a foundation stone laying ceremony for 100 homes in Kizhakkenchery Panchayath, Palakkad district, Kerala. The event, which was hosted under the aegis of Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, inaugurated the first phase of homes out of the Group’s commitment to construct 1000 houses over the next four years for underprivileged families in the district. The first phase of the “SOBHA Community Home Project” will build and deliver 100 houses, each costing about INR 1.5 million. Under PNC Menon’s leadership, Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust also allotted pension to 50 rural widows, as well as granted admission to 90 young girls from underprivileged families at The Sobha Academy.
Sobha Vocational Training Center
At the Sobha Vocational Training Centre, the less privileged gain access to training in various vocational fields such as carpentry, computers, and music. With paid apprenticeships and employment opportunities, they can begin their career in a vocation of their choice and earn a respectable living.
Integrated Housing Community – Devi Homes
As part of empowering the women and giving them wings to fly, 100 orphan girls and 100 elderly women will be brought together in a unique housing program, wherein the two generations of girls and elderly women would share a mutually beneficial coexistence. This kind of integrated housing community gives the old destitute women a chance to live respectably and help each other as a family.
Sabarmati Riverfront Development
Mr. PNC Menon has pledged 440 mn AED (Rs. 10 Billion) as a philanthropic contribution towards the development of the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Gujarat over the next 5 years. The aim is to not only preserve the environment and improve the well-being of people it serves but also enhance the riverfront’s aesthetics. This collaboration symbolizes a shared vision to create sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant urban spaces that uplift communities and foster economic growth. The 4.5km stretch in Phase-3, on each side of the riverfront, would be developed aesthetically thereby transforming an additional stretch of the Sabarmati riverfront.
